DIY Bath Bomb Recipe

January 18, 2021

Are you a bath person or do you prefer showers? For me, I’m ALL about the long hot bath, especially during the cold winter months. I’m that gal who has to keep adding hot water to the tub to keep the chill away because I’m in there for so long. I love adding a pretty bath bomb that has the right scent to help me relax and unwind. Today’s post is a DIY bath bomb recipe that is perfect any time of the year, but is particularly color coordinated for Valentine’s Day.

You can make some of these delightful bath bombs for yourself using this DIY bath bomb recipe. You’ll want to make some extras to give away as gifts. Just wrap in cellophane and pair with some delicious chocolates for a gift that’s sure to please. Another gift giving option would be to put several in a clear jar to keep on the bathroom vanity. Don’t like pink? Use a different color. You can use sprinkles for a surprise center or eliminate them if you prefer. The options are endless!

Valentine's Day Bath Bombs

Valentine Bath Bombs supplies

Gather all of the supplies needed to make your fun Valentine’s Day bath bombs.

DIY Bath Bombs Supplies Needed

¼ cup Epsom salt
½ cup baking soda
¼ cup corn starch
¼ cup citric acid
1 tbsp olive oil
½ tbsp water
1-2 tsp Rosy mica powder (you can change up the color by changing the color powder you use)
30-50 drops rose essential oil (technically, you can use any scent you like)
Valentine’s sprinkles from grocery store (hearts used for this project) or Everyday Colorful Soap Sprinkles
Bath bomb molds
Large glass or metal bowl
Whisk
spoon

Directions for making Valentine’s Day bath bombs

In a large bowl, combine Epsom salt, baking soda, corn starch, citric acid and mica powder with the whisk. This process will take a few minutes, to get all of the ingredients as well as the color fully combined.

step by step instructions for bath bombs

In one half of one of the bath bomb molds, combine the olive oil, water and essential oil.

Very slowly pour liquid into the bowl of other ingredients, whisking the entire time. If you pour too quickly, or don’t continuously whisk, you will probably end up activating the mixture (which will start fizzing), and have to start all over from scratch.

pink bath bombs
Using a spoon, lightly fill one half of each bath bomb mold. Press the mixture around the bottom and sides, leaving a hollow area in the middle.

sprinkles in bath bombs
Add sprinkles to the hollow area, and top with more of the bath bomb mixture. Repeat this step for half of the total bombs you’re making.

how to make bath bombs at home
Add the bath bomb mixture to the rest of the molds, slightly overfilling.

molds for round bath bombs
Secure the two halves together and lightly twist until any excess mixture comes out and the two ends meet perfectly. Allow to dry or cure for about 12-24 hours.

Remove from molds once they are formed. If you wait more than a day or so, they may get stuck in there.

bath bombs with sprinkles
To release, twist one half of bath bomb mold. If it’s not releasing well, grab a spoon and lightly tap one half of the bath bomb mold.

How fun are these Valentine’s Day bath bombs?! You can make so many different varieties of these to add to your bath for a nice relaxing experience.

Will you be using this DIY bath bomb recipe any time soon?
